We have arrived at our final mantra, as tomorrow is the completion of our 11-day Spring Fund Drive. Thank you for staying with us to hear the Mantras with the Master. Today we explore the last of our six mantras of this series. Yogi Bhajan taught prolifically on the Panj Shabad also called the Beej (seed) mantra. Panj means five, and this mantra expresses the five primal sounds of the Universe (SSS, TTT, NNN, AAA and MMM.) It is the mantra Sat Naam from the Japji of Guru Nanak, in its sound-current form or naad. This mantra has a powerful impact on the brain, balancing the hemispheres, unlocking the intuition, and expanding the capacity and destiny of this incarnation. The Panj Shabad is:

SAA, TAA, NAA, MAA.

The mantra is translated as, " Saa - Infinity and totality of the Cosmos. Taa - Life, the emergence of form from Infinity. Naa - Death, the transition from form back to Infinity. Maa - Rebirth once again into the creative domain of existence."
The Master on the Mantra

"
Nanak said  Sat Naam, Sat Naam is the Panj Shabad. Body is of five Tattvas. Sat Naam is the vibratory control of stimulatingly controlling and balancing the five Tattvas. Sat Naam is no big deal - you jappo (chant) or you don't jappo, it is your problem. Sat Naam has no problem. There are five Tattvas: Ether - to know the unknown; Air - [to dream] dreams that come true; Fire - to be alive, Agan Granthi; Water - to expand, to be fatherly; Earth - to exist. SAA TAA NAA MAA - this is the Panj Shabad. "Yogi Bhajan January 1, 1989

Here Yogi Bhajan teaches the Panj Shabad in the form of Kirtan Kriya :

" Now these are mudras. In yoga, you know, mudras are the greatest situation. Sa Ta Na Ma - this is Jupiter (first finger), this is Saturn (middle finger), this is Sun (ring finger), and this is Mercury (little finger). This (the thumb) is the dragon tail and dragonhead, ego. Ego represents A, the first alphabet. This represents S (first finger), this represents T (middle finger), this represents N (ring finger), this represents M (little finger). This means totality, this means life, Sa means totality, Sa sound means totality... Na sound means death, Holy Ghost. Ma means mother principle, resurrection, rebirth. These are the sounds - these five sounds make the word  Sat Naam. So we will do it in a very methodical manner. Five minutes in human voice, five minutes in lover's voice, five minutes in silence. And then we will come back the same way. Five minutes silence, five minutes in whisper, five minutes in human voice." Yogi Bhajan, March 3, 1973

In this lecture from 1977 he challenges us to do a 40-day meditation of 16-count of Panj Shabad:

"This is how you have to do it: 16 times inhale on Panj S habad of Sa Ta Na Ma and as many rhythms you inhale on, that many rhythm you hold the breath, and that many rhythms you exhale the breath. And then hold the exhale that rhythm - that completes it. It will require almost forty-days for you to practice and once you practice this you can bless anybody. This is what a scripture says and I know it said the right thing. Because the compassion, the mercy, the Divine power of God, which is called in the old time the Lotus, the Goddess, shall reside in you. You know where mercy resides? What resides there? Where mercy resides, goodness resides, goods resides, God resides, whatever is the facet of Creative God resides in that being". Yogi Bhajan January 31, 1977
