Hargrove Celebrates 30 Years in Operation


In 2025, Hargrove Engineers & Constructors celebrates 30 years in business. Headquartered in Downtown Mobile, the company has played a key role in revitalizing the area and offers a wide range of project services including engineering, procurement, construction, automation, and technical support.


Over the years, Hargrove has expanded to include Hargrove Equipment Solutions, which provides custom equipment and industrial solutions, and Tormod, which focuses on environmental, safety, and asset management services.


Now the largest engineering firm in Alabama, Hargrove employs over 2,700 people across 17 U.S. offices and two international locations. Their team continues to attract national and global clients, boosting both commerce and tourism in Mobile.

Austal Raises $200 Million to Expand US Naval Shipbuilding Capacity


Austal is pleased to announce that it has successfully completed its institutional placement to raise $200 million at $3.80 per share to fund expansion of its US shipbuilding capability, along with the $50 million sell down of shares by Austro Pty Ltd (an entity associated with Austal’s former Chairman and current Non-executive Director, Mr John Rothwell).

Members Participate in Showcase Mobile 2025


Manufacture Alabama member companies were proud to participate in Showcase Mobile 2025, a workforce development initiative hosted by the Mobile Chamber. This annual event is designed to expose high school and college students to the wide range of career opportunities available in Mobile’s thriving industrial and manufacturing sectors.


As part of the experience, students toured major employers such as Airbus, AM/NS Calvert, APM Terminals, Austal USA, Evonik, Hargrove Engineers + Constructors, SSAB and more. The goal of Showcase Mobile is to connect students with real-world career pathways and help build a future talent pipeline by introducing them to the people, technology, and innovation driving industry forward in South Alabama.


Manufacture Alabama applauds the Mobile Chamber for its continued leadership in organizing impactful events like this, bringing students, educators, and industry together to highlight the strength of Alabama’s manufacturing economy.

Austal USA Christens Future USNS Bill Frank JR. (T-ATS 11)Raises $200 Million to Expand US Naval Shipbuilding Capacity


Austal USA held a christening ceremony for the company's first steel ship, future USNS Billy Frank Jr., the Navy’s sixth Towing, Salvage and Rescue Ship (T-ATS 11), at the company’s Mobile, Ala. ship manufacturing facility.  Ship sponsor Peggen Frank christened the ship by breaking a champagne bottle over the bow in front of hundreds of guests, including: Dr. Brett Seidle, Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development, and Acquisition (acting); Rear Admiral Thomas Anderson, USN, Program Executive Officer Ships; Rear Admiral Mark Haigis, USN, Deputy Commander, Military Sealift Command; and ship namesake representative the Honorable William Frank III (son of Billy Frank, Jr.)

Free DOT/RCRA Hazardous Materials/waste Regulations Awareness Training Workshop


Join WiM Alabama for a 24-Hour DOT/RCRA Hazardous Materials/Waste Regulations Awareness Training Workshop!


For employees involved in DOT HazMat and RCRA HazWaste Shipping, Receiving, and Handling; 24 Hours in Accordance with 49 CFR 262.17(a)(7)


To ensure a basic knowledge of DOT HazMat Regulations and be prepared for the workshop, participant may wish to complete 16 hours of online coursework prior to the start of the workshop.


This workshop is offered with U.S. DOT PHSMA HMIT grant support to the National Partnership for Environmental Technology Education (National PETE). Per the grant, government employees ARE eligible to participate in this program.

A Guide To Form 6765 and Claiming the R&D Tax Credit


Manufacturing and distribution companies can often benefit from the R&D Tax Credit, and you may already be conducting qualifying activities without realizing it. If you’re creating or improving products during the sales and design phase, performing quality checks, creating new packaging materials, designing packaging to maintain product quality, or optimizing delivery speed to preserve shelf life, those activities may qualify you for savings. But it’s important to know that the form used to claim the R&D Tax Credit on the income tax return, Form 6765, has recently changed. The new version of the form requires taxpayers to submit additional information with their tax returns that previously was only requested during an audit.

ADEM Proposes Revisions to its Recycling Rules – 15 Years in the Making


For the first time in 15 years, the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) is proposing significant revisions to its recycling rules. Schuyler Espy, Executive Director of the Alabama Pulp and Paper Council (APPCO) within Manufacture Alabama, has been actively engaged in following these developments and advocating for the interests of the industry throughout the process.


The proposed regulations, released for public notice and comment on March 19, include updates to requirements for several categories of currently regulated facilities — including Materials Recovery Facilities, Recovered Materials Processing Facilities, and Energy Recovery Facilities.
