Nominations are open for the 2025 Alabama Manufacturer of the Year Awards


Manufacture Alabama is proud to partner with the Business Council of Alabama and the Alabama Technology Network for the 2025 Alabama Manufacturer of the Year Awards. This prestigious program celebrates the exceptional achievements of manufacturers across the state and their impact on Alabama’s economy and communities.


Award Categories:

  • Small Manufacturer: 1–99 employees
  • Medium Manufacturer: 100–399 employees
  • Large Manufacturer: 400+ employees
  • Emerging Manufacturer: Companies in operation 10 years or less with standout performance


If you know a manufacturer doing exceptional work—or if your own company fits the bill—we encourage you to submit a nomination. Anyone can nominate, including business partners, employees, community leaders, or members of the company itself.

SSAB Announces $74 Million Investment to Expand Q&T Steel Production Capacity at Alabama Facility


SSAB is pleased to announce a significant investment of approximately $74 million to expand its heat treat capacity at the SSAB Alabama facility, located in Axis, Alabama. The new facility will substantially enhance SSAB’s ability to serve its customers in the U.S. market with premium steel products.

Austal USA's Josh Trippi Recognized as Naval Architect of the Year


Austal USA’s Josh Trippi, an Alabama licensed professional engineer, was presented with the Architect of the Year award by the Mobile Area Council of Engineers (MACE) at the organization’s annual banquet recently. MACE recognizes engineers in the community for their achievements and leadership, a tradition that has been in place since 1967. With over 15 years of naval architect experience, Trippi is the Lead Naval Architect for Austal USA’s U.S. Coast Guard (Coast Guard) Heritage-class Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) program. He holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of South Alabama.

3M's Safety Roadshow brings hands-on learning to students in Alabama, Arkansas and Missouri


When you come aboard 3M’s Safety Roadshow – a 90-foot semitrailer equipped with hands-on training experiences from 3M’s Personal Safety Division – the hum of robotics machinery and student chatter is unavoidable. That was the case at Joe T. Robinson High School, one of three stops in the Little Rock area this spring where more than 200 students eagerly took on roles as production managers, design engineers, assemblers, and quality control inspectors – all working feverously to create the perfect set of modeling clay “cookie” based on customer requirements.

U Can Teach Science | Raising Awareness of STEM Education in Alabama


The Alabama STEM Council/UTeach partnered with Copperwing to conceptualize, design and implement a coordinated marketing campaign to recruit young people across the state of Alabama to consider STEM teaching as a career choice.

 

After collaborating with the Alabama STEM Council/UTeach team, Copperwing developed a campaign focused on the theme of "UCAN." This theme encourages students to explore teaching as a career option while pursuing a STEM-related education. The campaign highlights UTeach students or graduates who have pursued certification to teach science, technology, engineering, or math.

Austal USA Celebrates Keel Laying for the Future USNS Solomon Atkinson (T-ATS 12)


Austal USA celebrated the official start of construction on the future USNS Solomon Atkinson (T-ATS 12), the Navy’s seventh Towing, Salvage and Rescue Ship, with a keel laying ceremony today at the company’s Mobile, Ala. ship manufacturing facility. Ship sponsors JoAnn Atkinson, Solomon Atkinson’s widow, and daughters Michele Gunyah and Maria Hayward, authenticated the keel by welding their initials into a keel plate that will be welded to the hull of the ship. They were assisted by Rufus Lord, a fifteen-year Austal USA veteran A-class welder.

Join WiM Alabama for a 24-Hour DOT/RCRA Hazardous Materials/Waste Regulations Awareness Training Workshop!


For employees involved in DOT HazMat and RCRA HazWaste Shipping, Receiving, and Handling; 24 Hours in Accordance with 49 CFR 262.17(a)(7)


To ensure a basic knowledge of DOT HazMat Regulations and be prepared for the workshop, participant may wish to complete 16 hours of online coursework prior to the start of the workshop.


This workshop is offered with U.S. DOT PHSMA HMIT grant support to the National Partnership for Environmental Technology Education (National PETE). Per the grant, government employees ARE eligible to participate in this program.
