mfredgeManufacturer's Edge Seeks New Regional Director for Southern Colorado
The Manufacturer's Edge team is expanding once more!
After nearly 20 years of being the sole primary contact for manufacturers from the south Denver metro area to Durango and from the western border to the eastern plains, we are now seeking an additional resource to assist our current Southern Regional Director, Cindy Nowak. Cindy will continue to oversee all of the contracts throughout the south during the transition, but then will be freed up to focus her energy on a more specific section of the southern region.
This change comes amidst increased demand and activity, but is also reflective of our commitment to continually improving our own internal operations in order to better serve manufacturers throughout the state.
Plus, we really like Cindy and we want to make sure we don't wear her out -- that's a lot of territory for one person to cover!
Are you interested in joining the Manufacturer's Edge team? Do you have a passion for manufacturing and for helping companies grow and thrive? For a complete job description and to see if you qualify, please visit our website for more information.
prGardner, Coons, Scott, Rosen Introduce Bipartisan, Bicameral Legislation to Support Investment in US Manufacturing
Press release from Senator Gardner's office in support of small manufacturing
U.S. Senators Cory Gardner (R-CO), Chris Coons (D-DE), Tim Scott (R-SC), and Jacky Rosen (D-NV) introduced legislation to increase investment in American small manufacturers. The Strengthening Investment to Grow Manufacturing in America (SIGMA) Act would support American manufacturers through increasing affordable loans, incentivizing operation growth, and expanding financial resources and education assistance to small manufacturers. A companion bill in the House was introduced by U.S. Representatives Tim Ryan (D-OH) and Tom Reed (R-NY).

The SBA's 7(a) and 504 loan programs assist small businesses by providing federally guaranteed loans for businesses. These loan programs, along with the SBA's Small Business Investment Company, provide investment in America's start-up manufacturers and growing businesses that have limited access to cash reserves. The SIGMA Act spurs additional investment for small manufacturing businesses in low- or moderate-income areas, rural areas, areas of high unemployment, and those that are veteran-owned, minority-owned, woman-owned or are important to national security.

"For the sake of national and economic security, the United States must remain a global leader in manufacturing," said Senator Gardner. "But small manufacturing can face some of the steepest startup costs. The SIGMA Act will help ensure small manufacturing entrepreneurs have access to capital to start and grow their businesses. This legislation will create jobs, spur investments in our local communities - particularly our rural economies - and strengthen American manufacturing."

"Small manufacturers provide an outsized role in growing the U.S. economy and are vital links in the domestic industrial supply chain," said Senator Coons. "This bill will help our small manufacturers secure adequate lines of credit so that they can expand their businesses, create new jobs, and continue to support U.S. economic growth." (...)

Cyber Safe Summer Travel Tips
Jennifer Kurtz, Cyber Program Director, Manufacturer's Edge
Packing up for summer vacation? There's an app for that-multiple apps, actually, including the top five recommended by the guru of credit card cognoscenti, The Points Guy. Personal hygiene and clothing tips rank high on these thou-shalt advisories. Alas, cyber hygiene tips are not included in these curated packing lists! Here are a few recommended security essentials for peripatetic peace of mind:
Safe Connections. Public WiFi hotspots are notoriously convenient platforms for casual conversation-and digital eavesdropping. And how robust (and non-guessable) are those hotel passwords really? Let's see, if my assigned password is [hotelnameROOM#] could my neighbor's possibly use the same format? VPN providers like NordVPN offer affordable services for creating an encrypted communications tunnel to protect your messages-with software downloadable to multiple devices.
Power Bars. Free power-charging stations in airports are so tempting! They can also be used as a two-way tool: you stoke your mobile device and the stations extract your device's data. Not part of the plan-and no user license agreement (ULA) to warn you of that possibility. Invest in a data blocker to prevent unintentional data exchanges.
Sleep Masks. For you as well as for your mobile devices! Turn off Bluetooth services when not in use. Although Bluetooth shares certain features with near field communication (NFC) technology, Bluetooth signals range from about 10 to 20 meters (for Class 2 devices like most headsets/headphones) to 100 meters (for Class 1 devices). Also turn off location services. (...)
camaThe CAMA Conversation
by Dave Jeffrey, Chair of the Colorado Advanced Manufacturing Association
Dave Jeffrey, CEO & Owner, JPM Prototype & Mfg, Inc.
Earlier this month, we celebrated the independence of our great nation. As I reflect on that, I can't help but think of the many manufacturers who have also helped to build this great nation over the decades. From the first black smith shop through the industrial revolution to the high-tech manufacturers of today, one thread is common - grit, tenacity, and perseverance.
We celebrate the freedoms to make our own destiny, to realize our own dreams, and to forge ahead regardless of the challenges we face.
As I travel around the state and meet with different manufacturers, I see in them those same characteristics that must have influenced our forefathers, and, as was the case with our forefathers, the only limitation is the creativity of our own minds.
Capitalism is alive and well here in the United States of America, built by tens of thousands of small and large manufacturing businesses spread throughout Colorado and our country. I am proud to be a part of what has built a nation and the many men and women who understand the importance of doing their best work here on our own shores.
