Many Hearts, One Farm
June 2022 | Edition 10
“We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.”

― Maya Angelou
This month, Many Hearts One Farm highlights two important observances: Juneteenth and Pride Month.
Observed on June 19th, Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery. Legislation was signed in February of 2021, making Juneteenth a federal holiday. Juneteenth celebrates the African-American spirit, the ways this culture enriches our society, and our nation's commitment to equality. Juneteenth celebrations often include public readings of the Emancipation Proclamation, singing traditional songs, and reading of works by noted African American writers.
Pride Month
June also celebrates Pride Month! Celebrated this month in recognition of the Stonewall uprising in 1969, that transformed the gay liberation movement and the fight for LGBT rights. The LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual) culture is diverse and encourages people to celebrate who they are without fear. There are many flags, symbols and terms you might hear discussing the LGBTQIA events, the link below provides helpful definitions:
