SAL Sergeant Sam Flores and SSO personnel will be participating in the 25th Anniversary Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics of Northern California on Monday, June 20th. Unity in the Community: Gibbons Park
All hands were on deck for the first Unity in the Community of 2022 hosted by the Sheriff's Office, along with the Sheriff's Activities League. The day was a huge success, with hundreds of community members participating in a bike safety fair organized by SAL's Youth Leadership Council and over thirty families winning a brand new bicycle courtesy of Walmart on Gerber Road. The Sheriff's Office Explorers were integral in the day's success, as well as the Florin Law Academy students who assisted with serving over 800 hamburgers and 800 hot dogs to the community. SAL members have begun preparations for June's Unity in the Community which will be held in Rancho Murieta.
Fly Brave's Prom Night
SAL Deputy Briggs, SSO Lieutenant Noble and SSO Sergeant Murphy attended the Fly Brave's Prom Night on Friday, May 6th. This prom night was geared towards individuals with developmental disabilities who were 14 years of age and older to come as they are to enjoy a night filled with fancy free fun. This year's theme was "Puttin on the Ritz" and the SAL Camaro made a great photo spot for attendees throughout the evening. Sheriff's Volunteers and Explorers helped make the evening enjoyable by all.

SAL deputies travelled to Prairie Elementary School and Center High School to help the students gear up for their fast approaching summer break by playing music and games during their lunchtime.

Future Farmers of America (FFA)
Sacramento County Fair
Pleasant Grove HS FFA Chapter at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds
SAL Deputy Wojnar assisted the Pleasant Grove High School FFA Chapter out of Elk Grove in transporting their livestock to be shown, judged and auctioned off at the Sacramento County Fair. SAL is looking forward to a continued partnership with the PGFFA youth this upcoming year!
Florin Law Academy (FLA)
Florin Law seniors "Made it in the month of May!" They travelled to Yosemite for the 10th Annual Law Day, hosted a FLA senior awards night, participated in an AVID awards banquet, received thousands of dollars in scholarships and brought it all to a close at the Golden One Center on Tuesday, May 24th for graduation! SAL Deputy Hauck thoroughly enjoyed being their Legal Careers II instructor, going on so many adventures, and seeing them walk across the stage! Congrats class of 2022!

Deputy Vu Nguyen Memorial Scholarship
SAL member and FLA senior, Kasia Love, was award the Deputy Vu Nguyen Memorial Scholarship at the FLA senior awards night. The $3,500 scholarship will help ease Kasia's college expenses as she plans to attend a four-year university.
SAL member Zach Hatch presented six FLA seniors with $4,000 in scholarships at the FLA Senior Awards Dinner! The FLA seniors will utilize the SAL scholarships to off-set the costs of attending a four-year college.
FLA juniors "Mocked it up in May." The Legal Careers I class participated in two mock trials at the Federal Courthouse on Friday, May 13th. The Prosecution team faced McClatchy High School's Defense team on the 16th floor with Chief Judge Mueller presiding. The Defense team faced Burbank High School's Prosecution team with Judge DeLaney presiding. The Defense team won their case and the Prosecution had a hung jury. SAL Deputy Hauck was extremely proud of everyone's hard work and preparation.
Land-Garcia Scholarship
SAL Deputy Hauck is proud to announce on May 18th, six FLA juniors were each awarded a $500 scholarship from the Land-Garcia Foundation for their growth in leadership and community service.

May Mentor Meeting
SAL Sergeant Sam Flores, SAL/YSU team members and SSO personnel met with their mentees one last time for the 2021-22 school year. SAL Deputy Hauck would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the mentors and it was a pleasure watching the mentor program evolve throughout the year. Deputy Patrick Walker was able to serve as a juror at the Mock Trial and wish his mentee, Julio, good luck.

When the weather gets too hot to play soccer, SAL Deputy Walls takes the youth in her soccer programs to go and watch soccer! On May 25th, the Sacramento Republic FC Soccer Team beat the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0! It was a perfect Sacramento SAL Soccer night.

"M is for May, Marine, Missouri and Movement". SAL Deputy Wojnar, along with Young Marine advisors Tammy and Angelica, travelled to St. Louis, Missouri for a Young Marine Adult Volunteer Conference. Everyone had a great time networking and the Sacramento Chapter of Young Marines set a goal to be recognized at the next annual banquet! Even the participants of Young Marines did some travelling this past month. They travelled to clean up their new home base on Franklin Boulevard so they could get back to drill and training. Best Buddies builds friendships between people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities by offering social mentoring while improving the quality of life and level of inclusion.
CHS End of Year Party
Best Buddies participants at Center High School had a blast playing volleyball, field games and eating a barbequed meal at their end of the year event on May 11th. SAL Deputy Briggs brought his "A" game as he joined in the fun!


Best Buddies participants at Antelope High School took to the track to participate in the Unified Sports Track and Field Event on May 20th. SAL member Tammy Hinds, along with YLC advisor and Antelope High Alum Alyssa Hinds, made this event one to remember for all the athletes!
Youth Leadership Council
Participants in the SAL Youth Leadership Council (YLC) continue to develop their leadership skills and give back to the community. YLC was the director of the Unity in the Community (UIC) bike safety fair. YLC members were trained earlier in the month to properly fit bicycle helmets to a person's head. They took these skills to Gibbons Park and helped over a hundred people be properly fitted with a bike helmet! As always, YLC lent a helping hand whenever needed at UIC.
