The Power of Talking Together

Guest speaker: Amber Wichowsky

Associate Professor of Public Affairs and Leadership, Wisconsin Endowed Chair for the Division of Extension, University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Where: Mount Horeb Public Library,

When: Monday, March 9, 6pm

Across the country, Americans are coming together to talk across political differences in efforts that are building trust and reducing political polarization. Join fellow community members to learn more about constructive dialogue and the benefits of talking together. The public talk will cover the latest research on civil discourse initiatives, including here in Wisconsin, as well as best practices and methods of public engagement. Following the public talk, participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm and discuss ways to apply these insights in our own community.

Part of Mt. Horeb Public Library's new Disagree Better: Building Connection Across Difference series. They are partnering with Village Administration, the Mt. Horeb Area School District and organizations in town to present a series designed to support constructive engagement, understanding, and trust across diverse viewpoints.

POP-UP SIGN BRIGADE

IN MOUNT HOREB

FRIDAY, MARCH 13

3 - 4:30 PM

We will again be hosting a sign brigade on Springdale Street, near Liberty Park. Attendees are encouraged to create messaging, or select your favorite message from the nearly one hundred SWWAP made signs. We will also again be having the powerful "Signs of Fascism" sign display.

All are encouraged to research candidates

and VOTE IN EVERY ELECTION!

MOUNT HOREB AREA

PROGRESSIVE TROLLS

NEWS

One down, three to go.

A most important election year!

The recent Spring Primary turnout was underwhelming. Important choices were made by a mere 13% of voters. We must do better! Research your ballot choices, make sure you cast a ballot and encourage others to do the same. Join the Mount Horeb Area Progressive Trolls and help turn out progressives up and down the ticket. Pledge to vote in every election!

The Mount Horeb Progressive Trolls is our Democratic Neighborhood Action Team. This means that we collaborate with the state and county Democratic Parties to get out the Democratic vote. We're gearing up for a busy year! And it will only work with your help.

Please help us canvass in March and April. We'll have weekend shifts, and we're happy to work with you to canvass at a different time that works for you. (Contact Jennifer)

And, as we head into important fall elections, we'll be collaborating with our friends to the west on flipping the seats in State Assembly District 51 and State Senate District 17 from red to BLUE. Iowa County is starting canvassing March 7. They have many shifts available through the month, and we encourage collaboration within the districts. Take a scenic drive to Mineral Point to help out!

IT'S A SIGN!

It's that time of year again, when Spring Election yard signs will be popping up throughout the Driftless Region. Get your Chris Taylor yard sign by reaching out to Carol Larsen. Also, we're looking for a centrally located house with a porch or similar arrangement to be an easy sign pick up point - contact Jennifer Gottwald if you could help with that. Thank You.

AN INVITE FROM THE SILVER BADGERS

It’s truly inspiring to witness the remarkable spirit of activism that transcends generations, as evidenced by our friends, the Silver Badgers, who remind us that the passion for justice and truth knows no age limit. In a time when the voices of everyday Americans are more crucial than ever, it’s heartening to see individuals in their 80s and 90s bravely taking to the streets, standing in solidarity against the challenges we face. This powerful demonstration of intergenerational engagement highlights the importance of community unity, where everyone—young and old—can contribute their perspectives and advocate for progressive values. Let us come together, uplift one another, and actively participate in local political matters, for it is through our collective voices that we can challenge harmful ideologies and inspire meaningful change. Together, we are a force for hope and resilience, proving that every voice matters in the pursuit of justice and truth.

A WATERSHED MOMENT

Last week's Reimagine Resistance featured retired Police Chief, priest, poet and activist David Couper. Be sure to view this powerful video of David's presentation. Text of David's Watershed Poem can be found HERE.
