Silver City Weekend at the Galleries

The 25th annual Silver City Art Association Weekend at the Galleries takes place October 6th–8th in historic downtown Silver City. This anticipated event brings together artists and art lovers for an art-filled weekend. Eleven galleries will be filled with unique works of art created for the event and will offer special exhibitions and demonstrations. Events will kick off on Friday, October 6 from 5­­pm–7pm for a First Friday at the Galleries art walk. First Fridays feature extended gallery hours, music, and entertainment downtown. On Saturday, October 7th, visitors can stroll through the various galleries, take part in receptions, and watch art demonstrations from local artists. Sunday culminates the weekend with an art walk from 10am–2pm. Pick up a brochure at the visitor center located at 201 N Hudson.

Gila Monster Gran Fondo

Silver City once again will host hundreds of avid cyclists on Saturday, October 7th, for the Gila Monster Gran Fondo. Designed to be fun for all riders, from recreational cyclists to competitive racers, this is the opportunity to pedal the gateway to America’s first wilderness. With rides ranging from 30 to 80 miles, races kick off at 9am. Rest stops with water, energy drinks, snacks, and portable toilets are available along the route. Be sure to join the After-Ride Party and award ceremony at Buckhorn Saloon & Opera House for complimentary refreshments and music.

Southwest Print Fiesta Returns

Get ready for a weekend-long celebration of all things print when the Southwest Print Fiesta returns to Silver City October 6th-9th. The event returns with workshops, free events, exhibitions, and opportunities to purchase art. Southwest Print Fiesta offers established artists the opportunity to advance their practice, while providing a supportive space for new, emerging voices to join in the conversation. Explore the printers’ market, witness steamroller printing, join one of the artists talks, or take part in the community print project. A series of two-day workshops will be also featured on topics like letterpress and shaped woodblock monoprints. Can’t attend the live event? Fall is an amazing time of year to explore the Gila Wilderness. With miles of scenic bypasses and hiking trails, you can find your adventure by car or on foot. The cooler temperatures are ideal for spending a day amongst the natural beauty. It’s also the time to capture the groves of Aspens high in the Mogollons as they begin to shimmer in shades of gold. Not to be outdone, the night skies during this time of year are equally impressive. Come experience the Milky Way and various constellations as they emerge over the mountain peaks.
