Maple Road Reconstruction Update
Construction crews continue to make great progress on the project to transform Maple Road from Southfield to Woodward and they have now completed more than 30% of the work. Some of the project highlights from last week include:

  • The final 50 feet of water main between Woodward and Old Woodward has been installed and is now 100% complete. All tests on the water main have been conducted and passed.
  • Work has begun on the fiber conduits that will serve future telecommunications between Woodward and Old Woodward.
  • The water main between Bates and Pierce has been installed completely.
  • Work continues on the sanitary services between Pierce and Chester.

Next week, we look forward to connecting water services to the main between Woodward and Old Woodward, continuing fiber conduit installation between Woodward and Old Woodward, starting water main installation between Bates and Chester, continuing work on the sanitary services between Pierce and Chester and beginning pavement restoration at the southeast corner of Maple and Woodward.

When the Maple Road project is complete, downtown Birmingham will be more accessible than ever with the addition of mast-arm style traffic signals along the corridor and improved on-street parking spaces. We’re providing updates week after week and we’d like your help to get the word out!
