There will be a luncheon for the Harsh family and guests at the church. The entree and sides will be provided; just need some desserts. There's also a need for folks to help with the luncheon, which is expected to start at noon.
Please let me, Charlotte Phelps (314-365-7132 or phelpscb@gmail.com), know how you want to help. Thanks.
Note from Pastor Andy
Why did I go to the “No Kings” demonstration in downtown St. Louis last Saturday?
Several thousand people gathered in and around Kiener Plaza park Saturday, one of several such gatherings in the St. Louis area, dozens around the state of Missouri, and hundreds across the nation. Several Maplewoodians were there, including me. I thought I would take a minute to share with you my reasons for going.
I went to lend my voice to those calling for justice in our nation. Many of us have seen how the policies and priorities being promoted are oppressive, discriminatory, and unjust. I want my voice to be part of the chorus advocating for justice.
I went to be a visible presence. I wore one of my clergy shirts with a collar, and carried a sign quoting Micah 6:8, “Do justice. Love kindness. Walk humbly.” I went to represent the Church, to represent Christ, to represent the love, grace, and peace that the Gospel embodies.
I went to be a witness. I listened to chants; I read signs; I spoke with people. It was celebratory, with a lot of laughter, music, dancing. I witnessed babies, kids, teens, adults of all ages. There were individuals of every race and ethnicity. And every possible hair color! It was a vibrant, beautiful picture of diversity and inclusion.
I went, honestly, so that I will be able to tell my grandchildren that I went. This is a pivotal moment in the life of this nation, and I want to be able to say that I was a part of it, and that I spoke up for what I believe is right, as God gives me to see the right.
I went because I believe the words of Amos, that God takes no delight in our going through the motions. Rather, God demands that justice roll down like water and righteous like an ever-flowing stream. I went because I don’t want to just go through the motions. I went to Let Justice Roll!
So that’s why I went. I know you didn’t ask, but I thought I’d tell ya anyway! This week in worship at Maplewood UMC we’ll continue thinking about what Amos has to say to us. If you want to read up through chapter 5 that would be helpful.
I can’t wait to see y’all in church!

Thank You from Union Memorial United Methodist Church
Dear Rev. Andy Bryan,
Rev. Dr. Antonio Settles, Officers, and members of Union Memorial UMC cannot begin to “Thank You” enough for all that you have done during this time. Our church is blessed not to have extensive damage as other churches and homes in the city of St. Louis, but with the damage we experienced, we were able to open our doors and still see our way through as spiritual leaders in the community. As Paul reminded the Corinthians of their pledge to give to Jerusalem when needed, you extended your support with your monetary contribution of $2,850.00. This allowed us to clean up a lot of trees and debris from around the church and we were able to secure the church from broken glass from several windows. We appreciate you and your congregation greatly.
May God continue to bless your congregation in ministry.
Yours in Christ,
Rev. Dr. Antonio Settles
