50% OFF Sale Today, Thursday, June 5th until 2p.m.
On a Sale Day anywhere from 200 to 400 items are sold at half price (50 to 25 cents) and that means we have a lot of space to fill up with new donations. As you do your Spring cleaning and you run across items that are clean and in good shape you no longer use, donate them to the shop. Clothing for all ages, shoes, purses, kitchen items, curtains, bedding, small appliances and much much more.
Beginning Monday, June 9 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.,
Steve and Lis Wall-smith will be leading a GriefShare support group at Maplewood UMC. It will meet for 13 weeks every Monday night through August 25 in Memorial Hall.
A GriefShare support group is a safe, welcoming place where people understand the difficult emotions of grief. Through this 13-week group, you’ll discover what to expect in the days ahead and what’s “normal” in grief. Since there are no neat, orderly stages of grief, you’ll learn helpful ways of coping with grief, in all its unpredictability—and gain solid support each step of the way. Pillows, pillow cases, socks and underwear UPDATE
Counting everything collected, we collected a total of 700 pillows, pillow cases, pairs of socks & underwear. A BIG THANK YOU to all who helped participate in this tornado relief project.
Note from Pastor Andy
Are you feeling this?
Wow! There is an energy, a movement, momentum building in and around Maplewood United Methodist Church. It is wonderfully exciting to be a part of! It’s so cool to witness the Holy Spirit at work in a community of faithful people.
Our mission is to create spaces where people can have authentic encounters with Christ, discover their Spiritual Gifts, and use them for God’s glory. And our vision is a community that is being fed - body, mind, heart, and spirit - through the love of Christ. That mission and vision are at the heart of all the good stuff happening in this congregation right now, as we follow the Holy Spirit’s lead.
As I mentioned yesterday morning, the above-and-beyond generosity of Maplewood UMC is simply inspiring. To date we have given almost $2,700 to be given to Union Memorial UMC to help them with tornado recovery. Our Easter offering was almost $2,200, to be given to Adrian UMC to help them rebuild from the fire and to purchase an AED to be given to a nearby congregation that needs one. All that was after giving just over $1,000 to send to the California-Pacific Annual Conference earlier in the year to help with fire recovery efforts. That’s on top of other giving to the United Methodist Special Sundays this year, plus the in-kind giving of pillows and underwear.
Whew! I’m tired just listing off all that generosity! And that above-and-beyond giving, by the way, has not diminished this remarkable congregation’s general discipleship giving at all. As of the end of May, our General Offerings were $7,700 more than anticipated for the year to date. Again … WOW!
This Sunday is Pentecost, when we celebrate this energy of the Holy Spirit within and among us. Everyone wear your red outfits and come ready to keep the good times rolling! Thank you for being such a wonderful congregation, and for the privilege of serving as your pastor. You are a joy!
