Note about Maplewooud UMC and Community Unity emails.

As you may notice at the bottom of any email sent through Constant Contact (what we use to send out bulk emails to the church family) you have the option of unsubscribing from future emails. Say, you like getting the newsletter from the church or Community Unity Center but don’t want to get the online bulletin and you decide to unsubscribe from the bulletin, it will also unsubscribe you from any other eamil the church sends out. If you unsubscribe from one thing it deletes your email address from all emails and it is almost impossible to get your email added back to the list. There is a work- around; just let me know if this affects you. If you have questions let me know, Jerry Blackwell – jbrx10@yahoo.com

As school has begun the MRH High School is starting up it's Weekend on Wheels program again. This is a food program where a box of food is sent home on weekends to provide food for a student's family.

Note from Pastor Andy

Two things are happening Sunday. Well, of course there are more than just two things happening Sunday, but two things that I’m going to highlight in my Pastor’s Note this week!

One is the final Sunday in our series, “Stories of Hope.” We’ll wrap up the series with a parable of Jesus, found in Luke 18. In an unusual move, Luke prefaces the parable by telling us what it is about. Usually, we are presented a parable and left to ponder its application. Here, Luke writes, “Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose heart.”

The story Jesus tells is about a woman who keeps coming back to a judge, over and over again, to seek justice. There are a lot of important details in the parable, but the main idea is that the woman is persistent; she seeks justice until she gets it. She does not lose heart.

The second thing happening is a Covenant Renewal Sunday. Three times a year, we take some time during worship to think and pray about our discipleship promises to support the ministries of the church with our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness. We use a “Discipleship Promise Card” to quantify these promises.

Now, ordinarily these cards are returned to you after you fill them out. But your pastor forgot to give them back last time!!! I apologize. The idea is that you fill the card out, then they are turned in and tabulated by the generosity team, then they are returned to you so that you can keep track of your promises over time.

So do not lose heart! This time, I just know that your pastor will do a better job of remembering to return those cards to you! Maybe if someone would remind him as persistently as the woman in the parable, he will remember this time! LOL!

It is going to be a wonderful week at Maplewood. We’ll wrap up a worship series and renew our covenant promises, and all the other stuff too! I’ll see y’all in church!
