Humbled by God

Here the Israelites are commanded twice to follow and obey every command that they have received from God. He expects this from us as well. The reward was that he would bless them by bringing them into the Promised Land. God had humbled their forefathers with their desert wanderings for 40 years.
God humbled them, creating a dependence on him by breaking their pride and hardheartedness. He will do this for us today to get our attention and bring us back into the security of his love.
To show the Israelites what he would do for them, he provided manna for them, a food they had never seen. As this food was unfamiliar, they could take no credit for it so they had to give God all the praise, continuing to be humbled by God. Although he provided physical bread, it was more important to God that they become godly and spiritual people. We need to follow this model by meeting the physical needs of people so we can ultimately share the message of God, enabling them to choose spiritual fulfillment that will last a lifetime and beyond.
God humbles us to keep us focused on him as he wants us to be in eternity with him.
