Exodus 20:1-7
What can anyone say about the Ten Commandments that hasn't already been said? The answer is probably, "nothing." So let's back up to v. 2 and these three little words, "brought you out." Has God brought you out of the bondage of sin and into the freedom of salvation? If not, you are still in Egypt! In fact, if you have never truly experienced God's salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone and you are trying to keep the Ten Commandments, you are a pretender. However, when you truly leave Egypt behind, these commandments come to life: no other gods, no idol worship, no misuse of his name and - you practice true Sabbath. The Heidelberg Catechism, question 103 asks, "What is God's will for you in the 4th commandment?" The answer, "That every day of my life I rest from my evil way, let the Lord work in me through His Spirit and so begin already in this life the eternal Sabbath." No pretending to be something you're really not - you've been brought out and placed in.

Let's practice these commandments because we desire to obey God and to see others brought out and placed in.
