When Leadership Fails
Friday, July 27, 2018

Deuteronomy 1:19-33
One of the saddest accounts during the time of the Exodus is when 10 out of 12 spies returned to tell of the unsurvivable peril that was in the land of Canaan. The leadership that had been organized earlier in the chapter floundered with the fear of the report of the 10 spies. The leaders began to fear men and forgot the judgments of God. Their leadership failed.

How would this look in today's church? One possible view is when leadership focuses more on the traditions of men than on the Word of God. It is God and his Word that should be the guide for what the church does and teaches. The church of Thyatira (Revelation 2:18-29) serves as an example of what to do with failed leadership. The people were to exchange failed leaders for faithful leaders.

Pray that failed leaders will recognize and repent of their failures. Pray for the church as a whole to have the same desire to serve God as the people in Ezra's day (see the thoughts for Wednesday, July 25, 2018).
