Slow to Speak

Job is now defending himself against the wrongful accusations of his friends as he eloquently states his case. In verses 9-12, Job turns their words back to them. "Would it turn out well if He (God) examined you? Could you deceive Him as you might deceive men? He would surely rebuke you if you secretly showed partiality. Would not His splendor terrify you? Would not the dread of Him fall on you? Your maxims are proverbs of ashes; your defenses are defenses of clay."
It is so easy to judge, to assume, to point blame. God does not call us for that purpose. Yes, we are to speak the truth to others, but we must know for sure what that truth is! We are to "speak the truth in love," not arrogance. We can only do that when we have listened carefully to the one in need and listened very closely to what God is telling us. Only then can the "words of our mouth" be acceptable in his sight. Only then can our words be helpful to those in need.
Father, may I truly seek your wisdom and understanding. Help me to be the person who speaks the truth in love so that others are helped, not hurt.
