As an avid Boston Red Sox fan I can appreciate the roller coaster ride we've been on the last two days and today. Like Zechariah two days ago, celebrating the birth of his son, we were "champions of the world." Then, like the Red Sox, we plunged into last place as we grieved King Saul's tragic death because of his rejection of God. Today, we are back on top as we celebrate the anointing of David as the new king of Israel. Verse 9 says, "And David became more and more powerful, because the Lord Almighty was with him" (NIV). David was far from perfect, but unlike Saul, he clung to the Lord in repentance, love and devotion, and his kingdom became an everlasting kingdom through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Psalm 84:12 (NIV): "O Lord Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you."
