THE ARK, STAGE 1

1 Chronicles 13

Now Saul had died, and soon after that the men of Judah made David king. He began to pull together his fighting men into a true army and to make other plans to strengthen the kingdom. In a few years, the northern section of the country, Israel, joined with Judah in claiming David as their king. It had now been quite a few decades that the ark of God had been sitting in someone’s backyard. David decided that it was indeed time to bring the ark (the literal presence of God) into the center of Jewish life. His intention, his motive, was excellent; but he failed to research how it should be accomplished. God’s anger flared, Uzzah was killed (because he actually touched the ark) and David himself grew angry. Perhaps it wasn’t actual anger at God as much as it was deep disappointment, confusion and a sense of personal hurt. His intentions were so “right.” The celebration came to a premature end and the ark rested in another secluded yard – somewhere, but not in Jerusalem.

Our friends’ advices may seem so good, but may not be exactly what the Lord can bless.

We do well to ask God for wisdom and guidance for all things in life, in work as well as in personal and family affairs. Sometimes the path is not clear and we must wait, ask for clarification and move ahead slowly. But we can be confident that the Lord cares about us and wants to guide us. What may seem to be “punishment” may only be loving correction. His goal for us is only for our good.

Lord, please walk me through today, and correct my attitude as well as my plans.
