Prayer Is More Than Asking
June 6, 2015

As the story of finding a wife for Isaac continues, we see the hand of God in everything that takes place. We see God answer the servant's prayer for help almost immediately. As the servant goes to Rebekah's house, we continue to see God at work in the process.

It is important to compare the actions of the servant with what our own reactions might be today. The servant was quick to place everything into God's hands and was quick to be ready to obey when God answered. He shows us a two-way street for prayer. Today, I am afraid so much of our prayer is one-way. We tell God what we want and then wait for him to give it to us. We forget to wait, be quiet and listen for God. What he has to say to us is much more important than what we think we need to say to him. There are too many things to distract us today and they are increasing.

Abraham's focus was on God's plan and obeying it completely. He was not interested in "things" for himself. Today, in many cases, we have gotten this turned around and place ourselves before God and others. God tells us over and over that it cannot be this way; Abraham is the example of where and how to place our faith.

God provided the servant with even more help than he had asked for. God is waiting to do the same thing today, if we will let him.
