Some choices are difficult while others are easy. Unfortunately, some of those easy choices are not always the best choices. In today's reading, Abram, in an effort to keep the peace between himself and Lot and their herdsmen, offers Lot his pick of land. Being older, Abram had the right to choose first but allows Lot to pick. Lot looks out over the land. He sees that the Jordan Valley to the east of them is the best land. It is well watered and reminds him of Egypt. So Lot takes it. He chooses the best looking land for himself. What Lot did not take into consideration when making his decision was that the people of this area were wicked and constantly sinned against God. He only looked at what would benefit his wealth - good pasture land for his livestock. He did not consider what the consequences would be for him and his family living among such wicked people. Have you made the easy choice because it appeared to be the most beneficial to your wealth and success? Did you find yourself among wicked people who negatively impacted you or your family?
"Who are those who fear the LORD? He will show them the path they should choose" (Psalm 25:12 NLT).
