Intercessory Prayer
May 31, 2015

God told Abraham he was bringing judgment upon the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Six times Abraham asked God to spare the people. He began by asking God to save the cities, if 50 people could be found. God agreed to Abraham's request to save the cities. Finally, God would spare the cities if only 10 righteous people could be found.

Abraham was fearful he was too bold in making repeated requests. Abraham's fear of coming before God on behalf of a sinful city was based on a false assumption. He believed God wanted to destroy the city because he didn't care about the unrighteous. Abraham learned an important lesson about God's character. God loves a fallen and sinful human race! He would save a whole city for 10 godly people.

We can learn from Abraham. He prayed for a city to be saved. Questions: How often do you find yourself praying for the city or town you live in and for the neighbors that dwell around you? Are you asking the Lord to lay some person upon your heart that he may love that person through you? It's a great start!

Lord, teach me that there is nothing that makes me love another person as much as praying for him. Amen.
