They said it twice! "Everything the Lord has said we will do." "We will do everything the Lord has said: we will obey." History shows they didn't do it. We know how hard it is to keep the Ten Commandments. No one has ever been able to avoid breaking them, except Jesus, who was "tempted in every way, just as we are - yet was without sin" (Hebrews 4:15). Our inability to keep the commandments has frustrated every attempt we have made to earn salvation through obedience to the law. It just can't be done.
Paul frequently discussed the Old Testament law and its role in God's plan of salvation for lost mankind. In Galatians 3:24 he said, "Therefore the law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith" (NASB). We can find forgiveness of sin and hope of eternal life only through faith in Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Heavenly Father, thank you for showing us what's right and what's wrong. Thank you for saving us from our sins through Jesus, our Savior. Help us to do what's right today. Amen.
