I will start out this devotion the same way I did the one for June 29: "We are so forgetful!" How many of you have forgotten to buy an item on your shopping list? That's easy enough to do when you forget to bring the list with you, but I've even forgotten when I had the list right there in my hand! (No, I'm not senile. I just got distracted. At least, that's what I told myself at the time.) How about that errand you forgot to do on your way home? Yes, we do forget. But thankfully, much of what we forget isn't really that important in the grand scheme of things.
But there are some things that are important in the grand scheme of things. There are some things we cannot afford to forget. This passage in Deuteronomy is filled with important reminders. Here's a summary of a few of them: Love God fully and completely. Obey God's commands. Teach them to your children. Don't ever forget God. He's the One and Only!
Let's not get distracted. Let's remember to put first things first - and live life God's way!
Lord, please keep us on track, and focused on what really counts.
