A while back, a friend of mine got word that she had breast cancer. Going through all of the decision-making about her care and then going through all of the procedures involved was hard and more than a little scary. She told me later that the verses on peace that I shared with her from the Bible helped her make it through.
Psalm 1 teaches us the importance of managing our thought lives — not only in crisis moments, but day by day. Delighting in God’s Word, thinking about it and letting it sink in to our hearts and minds will bring about change. It will change us from the inside out.
We can waste our lives. We can let the wind of the world blow us wherever it wants to. We can let its thinking soak in and lead us into sin. Or, we can let the God’s Word work in us. God wants to make our lives fruitful and meaningful. As a good friend of mine often said, “It’s the Word of God that does the work of God.”
Lord, let your Word change us from the inside out!
