Psalm 22

You might be thinking; “Isn’t that the title of a country song?” You would be right. It talks about being in the moment, giving no thought to what is about to possibly happen, taking a chance — getting away while you can. Nothing really Christian about it, but If there’s one thing that Psalm 22 reminds us of, it’s the necessity of sharing the gospel. Let’s remember that as Tim Keller has reminded us; “The gospel is not good advice, it’s good news.”

Psalm 22 is considered a Messianic psalm, verses 11-18 bear this out. For us, that means it’s an opportunity to declare what the Messiah means to us! We have been rescued from the “slave market of sin,” (Bob Thieme). We are encouraged to share our faith both in the assembly, (v.22), as well as to those who have never heard, (v.31).

Well, what about now? What do your life and witness look like? How about the “great congregation” where you worship? Remember the words of the Messiah to the disciples; “You will be my witnesses.” Witnesses share what they have seen, heard, experienced. The next time you have the opportunity — recall the words of verse 22 — “I will tell of your name to my brothers … ” That is one way of witnessing. How about the other way? When God grants you the opportunity to share your faith in the public square, be prepared to share your story. In that unique moment in time, you might be the one God uses to call an unbeliever to himself. What about now?!

We have the message, we have many methods, do we have the motivation to share in the moment?
