What Have You Done?

Genesis 4:1-16
Don't you love it when God asks us "Why are you angry?" Often times inappropriate behavior changes our very countenance, even our attitude. Restoration seems so simplistic, "if you do what is right, will you not be accepted?" (vs. 7). Abel approached the Lord by faith. His motivation was to please him. "By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain offered. Through this he was approved as righteous, with God testifying concerning his gifts. He still speaks through his faith, though he is dead" (Heb. 11:4).

I'm really uneasy when the Lord asks, "what have you done?" I'm aware he knows the answer, so I shift gears to defend my action. "I don't know," coupled with a disclaimer, "am I responsible for what happened?" Yep, I am and the price to pay is unbearable. The way of escape is owning up and doing what is right. The lion is growling ready to devour me and sin is crouching at my door. It desires me, but I must master it.

Lord, I'm so grateful you have accepted me in Christ Jesus and I never have to wander aimlessly.
