Exodus 12:14-20
When you think of purity, what comes to mind? As a child, I remember the advertisements for Ivory Soap that highlighted its purity. Their slogan was 99 and 44/100% pure! They were extolling the virtue that their product had less impurities than other soaps. The funny thing is their slogan revealed the fact that their product was in fact impure. When it comes to purity, there is no such thing as "kind of pure" or "mostly pure." By definition, pure means "free from all impurities." Not much meets the standard of pure in this life.

This passage correlates the Passover with the Feast of Unleavened Bread. The feast concentrated on a full week of preparing and eating only unleavened bread, bread made without yeast. In addition to focusing on the sacrifice associated with the Passover, God intended his people to also understand the need for purity as a people. Leaven, or yeast, represented corruption and impurity. The Lord God Almighty is a pure and holy God.

Lord, help me to address any impure thoughts or actions in my life.
