WAITING FOR THE RIGHT TIME
Monday, November 30, 2020
The time has now come for Solomon to build the house of the Lord. David explained to Solomon how he was chosen to undertake this role in building the house. Solomon was an individual of peace; he had not been involved in any bloodshed. He had pure untainted hands and heart, unlike his father. God promised and reassured David that Solomon would be his son and he would be Solomon’s father — a connection through David’s lineage, one never to be broken. As believers, we are connected to God as our Father, also through the lineage of David with a lasting relationship with Christ that will take us into eternity with him.

Solomon was approximately 16 years old when he began to build the temple, so I can understand David’s concern for Solomon as he was inexperienced and extremely young. Many would say he was too young, and his lack of experience should have disqualified him, but with God all things are possible regardless of age. This should be a reminder for us to not write anybody off because they appear too young or inexperienced, if they are called by God. We need to remember that God will equip those he has called and chosen. I wonder how nervous Solomon was to be the leader in this, leading men far older and far more experienced as craftsmen than he was.

Part of David’s role was to be an encourager for Solomon, knowing that he could accomplish this as he was chosen by God for this purpose and time. David prayed asking God to give Solomon wisdom, understanding and control. Just as we sometimes need to be reminded to trust God, not fearing or worrying, but to be strong, to stand firm in what we know and on the promises God has provided us with and to be courageous or alert, Solomon also needed to hear these words of wisdom. Who can you encourage that is called by God but may need a word of encouragement as they walk the path God has set them upon?

We need to wait upon the Lord to guide us and direct us and we need to be sure the time is right as it is his timing and not desires prompting us to act.
