Being Resolute in the Lord's Mission
Friday, October 16, 2015

Key Verse: v. 3 - "For a long time now, to this very day, you have not deserted your brothers, but have carried out the mission the Lord your God gave you."

Moses had commanded the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh not to settle in their land east of the Jordan River until all the Canaanites had been driven out and the other tribes had received their inheritance in the Promised Land. They were true to their promise and God's mission, even though the war in which they were engaged lasted several years, and they were absent from their families across the river.

When adversity or controversy comes into our lives, very often we try to find an escape, or, at the least, we look for "greener pastures." Jesus said that in this world we would have troubles, but we could be overcomers, just as he has overcome. It takes a tenacity and resoluteness to stand strong in the face of God's mission when the going gets tough.

Lord, give us tenacity and staying power to carry out your mission. During a time of inactivity, give us the desire to see our fellowships filled with new believers, and to be faithful to the calling to fulfill your Great Commission, even when the tough times come. It is your Church and not ours, so help us be resolute in faithfully pursuing your mission.
