Jumping to Erroneous Conclusions
Saturday, October 17, 2015

Key Verse: v. 19 - "Do not rebel against the Lord or against us by building an altar for yourselves, other than the altar of the Lord our God."

Because the Reubenites, Gadites and half tribe of Manasseh built an altar, not for burnt offerings but as a witness between themselves and the other tribes, Phinehas and the tribes west of the Jordan jumped to a conclusion they were rebelling against God. After listening carefully, Phinehas and the chief men with him made a decision that, indeed, they were not rebelling but standing firm for the Lord.

Most often we do not take time to really listen to others before we jump to erroneous conclusions, based upon hearsay, gossip or outward observances. We find ourselves as much in the wrong as those for whom we have accusations of wrongdoing. We need the patience of God's Holy Spirit as we listen and deal with others in the command of Galatians 6:1.

Lord, work in my life today with your Spirit to produce the patience and grace with which you deal to me, so I will, in turn, deal with others in the same grace.
