Not Me, Lord
Monday, October 5, 2015

No sooner had Joshua taken command and completed his assignment when God performed a great miracle. The purpose of the supernatural feat was not to glorify Joshua, rather it was for "all the peoples of the earth to know the mighty Hand of God" (v. 24). Joshua's attitude was "Don't look at me, look at what God has done." I recall reading that Billy Graham, evangelist to the world, on being given accolades for all he had accomplished, said that if he ever accepted even one word of self-glorification that God would turn his lips to stone. He graciously accepted whatever praise he received but quickly responded by saying "Not to me, but to God be the glory." Perhaps no other American president is as revered as Abraham Lincoln, yet no other president ever displayed more humility. It is well known that Lincoln looked to God for strength and victory over his circumstances. If your current situation makes you want to cry, don't look at them. Look instead to God, remember Joshua, stay the course and let God use you to display his mighty hand to the world.

Lord, strip me of my robe of pride that only humility shall ever abide.
