The Right Response

Have you ever been in a situation where you asked yourself, perhaps aloud, "how did I end up here?" In the second chapter of the book that bears her name, it is quite possible Ruth may have asked herself that question. Seemingly in a moment she went from having a husband with a good family and a bright future to being a destitute young widow with the responsibility as sole provider not only for herself, but also for her aged, emotionally depressed mother-in-law. Some might yield to despair in this circumstance. That is the wrong response.
The right response is seen in Ruth's determination, faith and fierce refusal to give in to her struggles and give up. We see in Ruth an understanding of the biblical principal of sowing and reaping. By stepping up to take care of her mother-in-law and taking advantage of the humbling and backbreaking opportunity of gleaning fields among the poor without complaining or bitterness, her efforts were noticed and she was blessed as a result.
Pray: Lord, no matter the difficulties of this life, help me to respond in ways that honor you.
