The late Paul Harvey always said; "And now for the rest of the story." If your relationship with the God of the commandments isn't what it should be, the rest of the story doesn't matter. Try as you might in your own strength, Jesus said; "Apart from me you can do nothing" (John 15:5b). In today's passage, these six relationship commandments are really heart attitudes and impossible to keep if Jesus isn't the focus of your life. Jesus reminds us that the issues of the heart, not the laws of the Pharisees, are these same commandments God gave to Moses that he then gave to the children of Israel (Matthew 15:18-19). These are not suggestions, they're commandments. But wait - my family reunion is Sunday. So? But wait - so and so said ... can you believe it?! But wait - his boat has 150 hp, mine only has 100. And now for the rest of the story. Read them again and check your heart. As the late Keith Green asked; "So you want to go back to Egypt"?
