Psalm 12
Today, deceitful flattery and idle talk suggest that we may speak and live as we wish. Oh? Is that really the case? Increasingly, we must be on guard lest we disagree with such new norms as gender preference or questionable family planning. The debate goes on and on as to what is RIGHT or WRONG. "Help Lord, for the godly man ceases!" says Psalm 12:1. How disheartening and challenging it can be for the Christian to live in this unholy world.

Psalm 12 in our day deplores headlines with idle talk or flattering lips that suggest or outright declare that God is not lord over what we say and how we say it. Ah, but what gems we find further on in this psalm! The Lord is still in control. His words are pure like silver. He can out-speak the wicked who scorn his lordship. He sees and hears the lesser among us. His followers will be kept forever by him.

Father in heaven, though wickedness is on every side, you can preserve your people the church from this depraved world, now and forever. Even so, Lord, come quickly!
