In Exodus God's incredible patience and grace is repeatedly demonstrated in his calling of Moses. Moses seemed to be pretty content in Midian with his wife and son as he tended his father-in-law's sheep. But then God called him "get off the bench and into the game." Moses came up with a long list of reasons why he was not the one for the task. Each excuse was a little bit lamer than the one before it. God countered each one until finally he basically just said, "Enough's enough! Just get on with it!"
Whenever God calls us to accomplish a task for him, we can come up with a variety of excuses as to why it's not possible. But all things are possible with him. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Paul tells us to start by turning to the Word "so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
Too many of us have been content too long to remain on the sidelines while others are "going into all the world!" If God calls you he will also equip you. It's time we stop being reluctant servants and just get on with it!
Father, please increase my faith that I might become a willing and eager servant for you. Amen.
