Firstborn

It must have been a very dark and terrible night in Egypt when the last plague was brought upon all the land. The firstborn of all the herds and flocks, and the firstborn of every family, from the poorest of the land to the house of Pharaoh himself, were slain by the death angel sent from God. Only the households of the Hebrews were spared if the blood of the Passover lamb was applied to the doorposts. To commemorate this great deliverance, the Jews were to keep both the Passover feast and sacrifice to God or redeem every firstborn. Redemption was possible by the sacrifice of a lamb.
Of course, this clearly points to Jesus, our Passover Lamb, who was sacrificed for us that we might be redeemed, reconciled to God and brought into his forever family as his children. Jesus was our firstborn substitute that he might make us brothers and sisters. And, he was the "firstborn of the dead" (Rev. 1:5), being raised from the dead that we through him might also be raised. Hallelujah!
Remember his sacrifice today and give thanks. Give yourself away to him.
