By Percy R. Batchelor
One of the issues that faces many lives is the responsibilities that are theirs or that have been placed upon their shoulders, and how successfully to confront these. Not a few people have filled early graves because they have been unwilling or unable to share their problems or burdens, or to divide the work that has come to their hands.
Many are less fortunate than Moses, who could select and commit certain duties unto well-chosen men, knowing the issues would be brought to fruition. Not infrequently, a pastor has to carry the burden of a church well nigh alone. This may be because there are none who are willing to assist, or perhaps none have been asked, or perhaps none have volunteered, or maybe few can be trusted with responsibility.
The work of Christ is a cooperative one in which all may share its responsibilities and its blessings. The degree in which this is undertaken prayerfully and with consecration, will in no small manner determine the results achieved. Spiritual burdens, financial obligation, personal commitment to Christ and his service, are to be shared by all God’s children. Such a relationship creates a fellowship of service that is a source of personal joy and collective blessing.
Pray that laity and ministry shall recognize their place in the work of Christ and his church and that there shall be a deepening personal consecration to Christian service.
