Maranatha Devotional
Overcoming our Leviathan
Sunday, August 7, 2016

Like Job, there are times when it seems our problems are so large that we are overwhelmed. It seems like we are in that famous canoe without that paddle but in the middle of a pack of Blue Whales. Do we just sit in the canoe and complain how bad things are?

Elizabeth Elliot first entered the news in January 1956, when her husband, Jim Elliot, and four other missionaries were killed by a group of Auca Indians, in the deepest jungles of Ecuador. Two years later she left her home to live with the tribe that had murdered her husband. Elliot also brought her daughter, Valerie, a toddler at the time. She returned to the United States after translating the tribal language so they could read God's Word, becoming a famous author and a college professor.

We all have our Leviathans, maybe not as great as Job's or Elizabeth's, but just as real to us. Like them we have a God who we can lean on and know that we are not alone.

Dear Father God, guide me as I face the Leviathans in my life.
