Psalm 13
After crossing the border from Maine to Canada with my mother and three children, I tucked the kids into bed at my uncle's home. Hearing my older son sobbing, I rushed to him. He wailed, "I want Daddy!!" After some questioning, he admitted thinking that he might never see Daddy again. "B-because what if we can't get back across the border?"

Even as adults, sometimes we wonder if we might get back across a different kind of border, that of a good relationship with God. We recall negative memories and shame. We dwell on our sins and shortcomings, even after they've been confessed and forgiven. Or what will the future bring? Will we have enough money? Will we lose our loved ones? How about old age with its pains and loneliness? Like David the musician, we pray but wonder if God hears us. David mused over losing his son because of his own sin. He'd been pursued by a vengeful King Saul and by his own son Absalom. He feared death. He dreaded the mockery of his enemies. Without a doubt, they'd triumph over his fall. Then suddenly this anxious king sees HOPE. He remembers God's mercy toward him. He can sing again!

Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ! "Who is he who condemns us? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us" (Romans 8:34).
