Spiritual Surrender

Sometimes we find ourselves in situations that defy our understanding and provide no visible solution to the dilemmas that occupy our thoughts and guide our actions.
Job, through his relationship with God, understands that God's ways and thoughts are much higher than his own. Righteousness is not achieved through human effort, as the friends of Job seem to assert. By describing the attributes and actions of God in verses 4-12, Job views the Almighty as someone he cannot please through his own pursuit of righteousness, thus he surrenders his understanding to God, even as he attempts to defend his own integrity before his friends.
The writer of Proverbs says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding" (Prov. 9:10). As we grow in our relationship with Christ, we will progressively surrender our confusion and lack of understanding to him, so in the situations in which we find ourselves, we will trust that, even though we do not comprehend, our confidence is in the One who holds us in his hand.
Lord, I surrender myself and my limited reasoning to you, not leaning on my own understanding, but trusting in the guidance of your Holy Spirit to lead me in trust and keep me in fellowship with you this day.
