Exodus 12:1-13
We have an amazing ability to forget. We all know that the human brain is a marvel of calculation, direction of activity and storage. But the reality is we can quickly forget things - even important things like anniversaries and appointments. The God who designed us and gives us life is fully aware of this, so in today's passage he gave the Israelites a reminder for all time.

God commanded his people to observe a remembrance of the final plague leveled on Egypt so devastating that even hard-hearted Pharaoh had to relent and release the Hebrew slaves. The angel of death took the firstborn of all animals and people, but "passed over" the homes of those who obediently covered their door frames with the blood of a lamb.

The Passover, observed in the first month of the Jewish calendar, was to be a continual reminder of God's provision shared among what effectively was a nation of priests as each family participated in the sacrifice and meal orchestrated for a quick departure.

Lord, may I never forget that through the shed blood of Christ, the world's sacrificial lamb, your judgment will pass over me if I accept him.
