What's in a Name

A name is very important, and the item to which many people attach either integrity or notoriety, good or evil. Our reputation is associated with the mention of our name, and we are cognizant of people around whom we desire to be or to whom we shun, by the suggestion of their name.
Verse 14 is the response to Moses' question in verse 13, "Who am I to say sent me?" For 400 years the Israelites had only known polytheistic gods, Egyptian and local deities to which they could attach identity. God's response represented a paradigm shift in their thinking. Moses was probably expecting a tangible name by which he could identify, and instead, God responded with, "I am the Eternally Existent One who WILL BE with you."
Upon this name we put our dependence and trust because it represents the epitome of our faith. "There is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved"(Acts 4:12).
Lord, it is by your name, and all it represents, we are saved. Empower me to walk in your Spirit this day!
