A Lesson in Loyalty

 1 Chronicles 11:20-47
In v. 41, we see listed among the courageous, faithful "mighty men," Uriah the Hittite, the husband of Bathsheba. You've read about that sordid story in 2 Samuel 11-12, one of the very saddest stories in the entire Bible. And when you think about how Uriah put his life on the line for David on a regular basis, and was loyal to the very end ... well, it kind of makes you sick. How could the king have done such a thing?! Because he was a sinner, like the rest of us. A guy who saw what he wanted, and decided that nothing else was more important! How severely he paid for that indulgence (as well he should have!). But what are we to learn from this?

David has taught me more about worship than maybe any man who ever lived. He longed for a right and intimate relationship with the Lord! Since God forgave David, maybe there is hope for the likes of us! David learned the very hard way. Let us learn from him.

If you think yourself to be incapable of "that kind of treacherous sin,"
then beware! Satan may have you right where he wants you!
