“The earth is the Lord’s” (Psalm 24:1).
The earth, this world we live in, belongs to the Lord God of Heaven. It belongs to him because he made it. And they that dwell therein belong to him for the same reason. And what a wonderful, bountiful resourceful world it is! And what powers lie in his creatures regardless of race or color, age or sex.
If we would stand or dwell in his holy presence, we must have clean hands and a pure heart. If we are not right with God, we will have no desire to be in his holy temple.
“Lift up your heads, O ye gates” makes me think of the ancient castles in countries like Japan. These were fortresses, strongly built of thick granite and surrounded by water. Entrance was through a gate over a drawbridge. These gates represent the evils in our society, and especially the human heart barred against God. Jesus the King of Glory stands at the door of every heart, knocking, patiently waiting for you to open and let him in. When he does come in, you will rejoice in the glory of your King.
Lord Jesus, King of glory, come into my heart and take over completely.
