Role and Responsibility

Exodus 19:21-25
Moses the prophet represented God to the people. This is still the role of the prophet today - a serious responsibility. When God was in the process of calling Moses back to Egypt to act on his behalf, Moses said; "Please send someone else ... " (Ex. 4:13). Now, in today's passage, he stands between God and the people. God has told him to go warn the people that they must do the right thing or else. Not the message any prophet wants to bring, but throughout history prophets have been bringing God's message to people. Some have listened and others have not. The consequences of failing to listen are, "the Lord will break out against them" (vv. 22, 24). We are not left without good news, however, as God called Moses and Moses shared God's word with the people, so we who have been called by God to salvation through Christ alone have been given a prophetic role.

Every authentic Christ-follower fills the prophetic role when we share God's word of salvation to anyone who will listen; it is our God-given responsibility.
