A Day of Rest

As a small boy I often wondered why my mother cooked for Sunday on Saturday. Now I understand that it was because Sunday was a day of rest. Nothing was done except the necessities; even the pleasure of play was extremely limited. After church services it seemed to me that everyone in church came to our house for dinner, for which my mother was wisely prepared. After dinner everyone discussed the Bible until mid afternoon, then together they climbed the hill to a paw paw patch where an awesome prayer meeting was held for the night's services. I was blessed to tag along.
Remember that on the sixth day the Israelites gathered twice as much manna, for the next day was the Sabbath day of rest. There would be none to gather, but some just had to see for themselves. Moses told them to stay in their place on the Sabbath; so they rested. In today's world it seems to be a day to shop, etc.; it seems we don't have enough days in the week. Let's bring our worship and rest of the past back to today.
