Exodus 15:1-12
When I read this remarkable story, I am reminded of a phrase that was used to introduce the ABC television program "Wide World of Sports," which aired beginning in the 1960s. The introductory video showed the champion bullrider hanging on for a victorious ride while a skier came down the ski jump crash landing, as the narrator uttered the phrase, "The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat." This could also be used to describe the outcome of the thrilling victory of God's people from Egyptian bondage and the agonizing defeat for Pharaoh and his army.

Moses and the people sang to the Lord in their excitement of his deliverance. With the song of Moses and also the songs we sing, there are words of great truths. Let us be certain that what we sing, we sing to the Lord who is the object of our worship, and that the lyrics thrill our hearts with the knowledge of what God has done for us through Christ's death and resurrection!

"Round His standard ranging vict'ry is secure; for His truth unchanging makes the triumph sure" (From the hymn "Who is on the Lord's Side?").
