“After the fire a still small voice” (1 Kings 19:12).
Listening is the other half of talking.
Since the use of radio, television and stereo assemblies has become an integral part of our modern way of life, a large percentage of the day’s time is filled with sounds emanating from one or more of these devices.
It could be that even soft “religious music” might be a distraction to the “still small voice” that is waiting to speak to us.
“Be still, and know that I am God,” may be something we know about and seldom experience. Rosalind Rinker writes, “I have learned that it is in silence, holy silence, that my heart pours out its best love and worship to my Lord and my God. I have learned that worship is that honor, respect and adoration a small earthling like me can feel and give to the Almighty Creator.”
It was in the “sound of a gentle whisper” (The Living Bible) that Elijah heard, “Why are you here?”
Precious Lord, use my mind to think your thoughts. May I gain quietness and confidence to serve you acceptably today. Thank you for the “still small voice” of your Holy Spirit, prompting me, “Why are you here?” Amen.
