As I read through my assigned Scriptures, I always seek a theme. These first few chapters of 2 Samuel are filled with lots of death, revenge, struggles, contempt, deceit, loyalty and other actions that make my mind swirl. What can I do with all the turmoil?
The overwhelming theme that comes to my mind is that God’s will is accomplished through all that man does. Sometimes what man does causes turmoil. Not all that man does is God’s will, but God’s plan is not affected. The seeming disregard for human life — people killed at the whim of David, the vengeful killing of Abner by Joab, the murder of Ishbosheth. Through all these actions God had a plan to have David anointed king.
God’s ways are often hidden behind current events. As I write this, our days are filled with turmoil — the pandemic, impeachment trial, financial struggles, new government, presidential executive actions and Judeo-Christian values being attacked. One can be sure, God is in control and is working his plan. His ways are beyond our understanding and his wisdom is greater than any man’s.
Christians must never give in to despair with current conditions. Conditions change in accordance with God’s supreme will. We must wait for God to act in his time and in his way. His way is Jesus Christ, Savior, Redeemer. There is no failure or defeat in Christ, only victory in accordance with the Father’s will.
God’s will is victorious over all turmoil. In God We Trust.
