David started his day off right — with prayer. He prayed to the Lord over all — his God and King. He prayed because he knew he needed help. He prayed expectantly because he knew that God would hear him. He knew that God is both righteous and merciful, and he depended on that in his prayer. He prayed for justice. He prayed for guidance. He prayed for, and depended on, God’s blessings on his people.
We would do well to follow David’s example! Prayer is a great way to start the day! God wants us to cast all of our burdens and cares on him (1 Peter 5:7). But let’s also practice verse 11 in this psalm. Let’s take refuge in God — let’s run to him for protection and comfort — but let’s also take time to rejoice in him. God is there for us. Let’s “sing for joy!” Now, that’s a stress reliever and an attitude changer! I know I need that. How about you?
Lord, thank you for being there for us.
